Boat Duet Drawn Up – After Sargent

Taken from Sargent’s Boats Drawn Up work, the image was chosen as a demo for the 2013 Plein Air Expo in Monterey CA. The view was reversed, and Sargent’s color palette of primarily Cobalt and Ultramarine Blues and Burnt Sienna was slightly altered, with each accent color of the boats changed to Cadmium Reds and Viridian Greens to provide a more vibrant appearance of contrasting color. Produced on 300# Arches hot press paper at half-sheet size, the demo work entailed about an hour, plus a half-hour after the session.
